Smart Start’s curriculum is designed to reflect the interests of each child and stimulate healthy cognitive, social/emotional, and physical growth. Our goals are to prepare our preschool children for future success in school and provide a safe, educationally-enriched school-age childcare environment that bridges home and school and reflects students’ interests.
Preschool - Smart Start’s preschool curriculum is designed to prepare our young children for kindergarten. Throughout the year, the focus shifts from awareness of self to the development of social-emotional skills; language and literacy skills; gross- and fine-motor skills; self-regulation; math concepts; and safety and health practices. Since children learn best through play, daily activities incorporate songs, movement, rhyme, singing, rhythm, puppets, props, smiles, and lots of praise!
School Age - We want our school-age children to get out and be active after school. They also need the opportunity to make choices based on their individual interests. Our Smart Start curriculum includes sports and other physical activities; science experiments; dress-up; skits; board games; arts and crafts; biking; hiking; nature walks; and “hanging out” with friends. Smart Start teachers supervise homework activities. During the summer months, children go on frequent field trips which may include Lazerstar, Skating Plus, the Getty Museum, the Santa Barbara Zoo, Raging Waters ---lots of fun!
